How has Triton College made an impact on your life?
Triton College has given me a foundation for success and has helped me create a remarkable pathway both professionally and personally. My experiences here have allowed me to engage in opportunities towards making a difference. I appreciate the knowledge, diversity, talent and friendships that have been cultivated through my journey at Triton.

Douglas Olson was appointed vice president of Academic and Student Affairs at Triton College in January 2012. Prior to this role, Dr. Olson served as the vice president of Student Affairs, working collaboratively to strengthen the academic and student affairs areas, and as the associate vice president of Student Affairs in support of the vice president of Academic Affairs and Student Services.

In his current role, Dr. Olson serves as the institution’s chief academic and chief student affairs officer. He is responsible for overseeing an extensive administrative portfolio, which includes Academic Success, Adult Education, Arts & Sciences, Business and Technology, Continuing Education, Curriculum and Assessment, Enrollment Services, Institutional Research and Effectiveness, Health Careers, Institutional Planning and Accreditation, Student Services, and Strategic Marketing and Public Relations.

Instrumental in Triton’s selection as a member institution of the Achieving the Dream organization, Dr. Olson has led campus-wide, evidence-based student success efforts aimed at closing achievement gaps, college readiness, and student completion. In addition, he is a strong advocate for student engagement, technology, diversity, and professional development.

Dr. Olson is a member of the National Association for Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), American College Personnel Association (ACPA), American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR), and National Institute for Organizational Development (NISOD).

Dr. Olson is a graduate of Triton College and holds a bachelor’s degree in Communication from DePaul University, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing and International Business from Dominican University and a doctorate in Adult and Higher Education from Northern Illinois University. Dr. Olson’s recent research involved the relationship between community college student engagement and student usage of online social networking. In addition, he continues to focus on strategies and data aimed at improving student outcomes in higher education.
