Auditions open for “The Zoo Story” and “The Sandbox” Aug. 26-27

The Triton College Performing Arts Department will hold auditions for Edward Albee’s “The Zoo Story” and “The Sandbox” from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 26 and Aug. 27 on Triton’s River Grove campus in the Cox Auditorium, Room J-108 in the J building.

Those who audition are asked to prepare two contrasting monologues as well as bring a photo or headshot and a resume detailing their performing arts experience. Auditions are open to the Triton College community and community members. Callbacks will be scheduled Thursday, August 28.

To schedule an audition appointment, or for more information, contact Amy Fenton at amyfenton@triton.edu.

Directed by Amy Fenton, “The Zoo Story” and “The Sandbox” are two short plays that will be combined for one evening of compelling and profoundly affecting theatre of the absurd.

In “The Zoo Story,” a man sits peacefully reading on a sunny afternoon in Central Park. Soon, he is joined by a stranger, a man who has been to the zoo. With provocative humor and unrelenting suspense, their simple conversation takes drastic turns.

In “The Sandbox,” Mommy and Daddy take Grandma to the beach, where they meet a young man doing his exercises. As this bright day becomes deep night, the afternoon’s darker purpose is revealed.

Albee’s plays confront the struggles of isolation, loneliness, class difference, and the dangers of indifference, and still have the power to shock.

Triton’s Performing Arts Department will perform “The Zoo Story” and “The Sandbox” Oct. 17-19 and Oct. 23-26.
