    Financial Aid Updates

Get an early start on the Financial Aid application process for the 2018-2019 academic year by applying now!

Based on the continued increase in application volume and the state’s worsening financial condition, the deadline for State MAP Grants was on Feb.15,2017. The FAFSA is located at www.fafsa.gov and students should be sure to enter Triton College’s school code (001773) when asked which colleges they would like their FAFSA information to be sent to.

In order to better serve our students, the Financial Aid Office has three computers in a semi-private space for students to complete and submit the FAFSA. If you are interested in utilizing the computers, please bring appropriate year's taxes 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ and W-2 forms and other necessary documents, and the Financial Aid Office staff will assist with any questions you may have as you process your application. Students are encouraged to use the IRS Data Retrieval tool when completing the FAFSA. The retrieval tool will save you time and increase the accuracy of your FAFSA information.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Financial Aid Office at (708) 456-0300, Ext. 3155 or at finaid@triton.edu.

    FAFSA Changes for 2017-2018

    FASFA Process Changes: 2017-2018

As of 2016, students are able to:

Submit a FAFSA Earlier: Students will be able to file a 2017-18 FAFSA as early as Oct. 1, 2016, rather than beginning on Jan. 1, 2017. The earlier submission date will be a permanent change, enabling students to complete and submit a FAFSA as early as October 1 every year.

Use Earlier Income Information: Beginning with the 2017-18 FAFSA, students will report income information from an earlier tax year. For example, on the 2017–18 FAFSA, students (and parents, as appropriate) will report their 2015 income information, rather than their 2016 income information.

    Summer Pell Grants

Interested in attending classes for the summer semester? If so, we have great news for you!

The Federal Pell Grant may be available to you this summer (2018) even if you used the full amount during the fall and spring semesters. Beginning this summer, students may earn a third semester of Pell in an academic year as long as they are enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours and are meeting the Standards of Academic Progress. This new federal regulation is intended to allow students to accelerate their progress towards program completion. Just to clarify, if you were enrolled full-time in the fall and spring semesters and used a full Pell award, you may receive additional Pell for summer 2018 as long as you enroll in 6 credit hours.

If you have any questions about the information presented in this communication, please feel free to stop in to the Financial Aid Office (B-160), email finaid@triton.edu, or call the Financial Aid Office at (708) 456-0300 X-3155.
