    Renee Wright

    Renee Wright, 2002 graduate, Associate in Arts Degree

    Faculty Member in the Triton College English Department.

    I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Dominican University and a Master of Science in Education Degree in Literacy from Dominican University. I am in the final stages of completing my PhD in Adult Education & Curriculum/Instruction from Capella University.

    I currently oversee the Triton College Learning Communities and spearhead our very successful annual One Book One Triton communitywide read program. In May of 2009, I happily received the National Institute for Staff & Organizational Development Excellence Award and in 2010, I was nominated for and awarded the Triton College Employee of the Semester Award for the spring 2010 semester. I also received a nomination for the Triton College Outstanding Faculty of the Year Award.

    I have been very active in the Triton College community, establishing a tutoring program that was approved by the state as a Supplemental Service Provider. I also held the position of past president of the Northlake Children's Learning Center, in the city of Northlake.

    What would you describe as your strong suit?
    I have a passion for teaching and the success of my students.

    What have been some obstacles you've had to overcome in pursuit of your educational and career goals?
    I was laid off from a previous job after 20+ years as a retail buyer with no concept of what I would pursue as a future occupation. The tough times inspired me to create an opportunity when the odds were against me, and I decided upon a teaching career.

    How has Triton College impacted your life?
    My time at Triton College helped me realize that I had many options and I was encouraged to continue my education to obtain a bachelor's degree in the field of education.

    What advice would you give to someone who would like to pursue a career in your field?
    Keep an open mind; there are so many possibilities in the teaching and learning arena providing opportunities that can benefit an individual's choice towards successful employment.

    What do you like to do in your spare time?
    I enjoy gardening, learning to cook vegan dishes and sewing.

    What are your plans for the future?
    My plans include finishing my PhD and writing a book about my success in the classroom.
